Wei-Wen completed his PhD at University of Adelaide under the supervision of Professors David Saint and Prash Sanders, studying cardiac remodelling and arrhythmias in preclinical models of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and diabesity. He begun his postdoctoral work with Professor Stuart Cook at the National Heart Centre Singapore as a Research Fellow in 2016, jointly appointed by the Programme in Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disorders at Duke-NUS Medical School. In his work, he established the pro-fibrotic and pro-inflammatory roles by interleukin-11 in the cardiovascular system.
Wei-Wen has keen interests in identifying novel factors in cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, and vasculopathies. The team does this by utilizing preclinical models to study disease mechanisms, employing cell and molecular biology techniques with applied physiology, with the aim of developing new therapeutics for cardiovascular disorders.
